REPORT LOST or FOUND PET
You love your pet and want it to live a long happy, healthy life. That is why proper veterinary care is so important! The Fairfield Area Humane society does not provide veterinary care, and there is no substitute for the skill and knowledge of a trained and licensed veterinarian.

Microchip - Unique Identification Number
If your pet gets lost and is taken to a vet clinic or animal shelter, your pet will be scanned for a microchip to reveal his unique ID number. That number will be called into the pet recovery service, and you will be contacted using the contact information on file with your petís microchip.
If your pet becomes lost, here are some things you can do:

Search your home and property thoroughly
Check all areas accessible to pets. Statistically, an indoor pet will hide within a 2-block radius of their home and may hide in small dark spaces. Check woodpiles, garages, storage sheds or other out buildings on your property. Also visit neighbors that may have pets.

Canvass the neighborhood on foot
Search all hours (injured animals often hide during the day). Check sewers, ditches, and vacant lots to make sure your pet has not become trapped. Tell your neighbors about the missing animal and ask them to call if they spot your pet.

Post photos on facebook or pet boards

File a lost report
Call your local humane society, (FAHS 740-687-0627) rescue organizations and animal control to make a report missing or found pets. Also we can help by placing listing on our facebook or sharing your post from your facebook.

You visit Fairfield County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center. Your pet may arrive at a shelter soon after becoming lost so do not wait to check.

Advertise
Most local newspapers do not charge for this service. Also post fliers in your neighborhood.

Don't give up!
People often keep found animals for several days before taking them to a shelter.

If you find an animal, you can do many of these same things to try and find the owner!

Once your pet has been found, please notify local shelters so they can concentrate on animals that are still lost. Also take down any signs and tell your neighbors that your pet has returned home.
