The animals of the Fairfield Area Humane
Society need your help. Donations are
needed to pay for all the basic things that
keep these animals alive and healthy. We
would not be here if it was not for the
generous donations of the people of
Fairfield County. Many of our animals
require extra care because they arrive here
injured or ill. These animals have links at
the end of their descriptions telling their
sad stories.
Donations
are both accepted and appreciated in all
amounts. Every little bit helps.
You may
sponsor any animal in the shelter with a
minimum donation of $10.00 to help cover the
cost of their care. Upon the completion of a
“Sponsor Me” form and the submission of your
generous donation you will receive a before
(if available) and after picture of the
animal you chose to sponsor, a description
of type of family who adopted him or her,
along with a letter of appreciation from the
animal you helped to save. So make a
difference today! Save a life!

Meet our Lil’ Lily (Intake # C7178): Lily is
a tiny black puppy who is about 4 or 5 weeks
old. This poor little girl came to us
severely malnourished, dehydrated, her
glucose levels were dangerously low, and she
was completely infested with fleas. She
almost did not survive; but our Lily is a
lil’ fighter! She just won’t give up! But if
Lily is going to make it she needs help from
generous sponsors like you to help cover the
cost of the care she needs to be well again.
We are not taking applications on Lily until
we are certain that she will pull through
but if you would like to sponsor this
precious baby or volunteer your time to help
care for her we know her lil’ heart will be
forever thankful!

This is Darby (Intake # C7179): Darby is
a female Chihuahua mix who was born around
5/1/07. Darby was found with a broken leg.
Her leg had been broken for a long time and
no one had taken her to get help. Darby’s
leg had started to heel incorrectly. Thanks
to the generous services of Dr. Linda White
and the staff of Hudson’s Corner Animal
Hospital Darby’s leg is now healing
correctly. The pain does not appear to
impact Darby at all. She is a wild woman who
has no trouble getting around even with her
bright green cast! Darby will be available
for adoption once her leg has healed but in
the meantime she needs the help of generous
sponsors to fund the medications and
materials needed to mend her broken bones.

Most people do not understand what
it means to have a bad day until they have
met PePe. PePe was hit by a car and sprayed
by a skunk all in the same day! PePe was
found injured on the 33 bypass. The kind
people at Winchester Veterinary clinic
relocated PePe’s hip and pinned his
shattered femur free of charge. He is
currently on a variety of medications to
prevent infection, however if the leg does
become infected it will probably be
amputated. Despite his recent run of bad
luck he has maintained his typical beagle
sweetness. Pepe loves everyone and tries his
best to great you! PePe is approximately two
years old. Once his wounds have healed and
he is as healthy as we can make him PePe
will be ready to go home. Hopefully he will
be adopted by a family who will spend a
lifetime making up for PePe’s extremely bad
day!

Meet Patience. Patience is a sweet little
girl who arrived at a residence in Lancaster
a few days ago; her mouth and nose were
caked with blood and she was having trouble
breathing. Our humane officer picked her up
and rushed her to the vet. The Vet thinks
she may have been hit by a car but no one
can be certain. But what we do know is that
poor little Patience has a broken jaw! Her
surgery was expensive but she was worth
every penny. She now has wires holding her
jaw together and they cannot come out for
quite a while. Patience needs generous
sponsors to help pay for her medical bills,
and once she has healed; a loving forever
home.

Save Oliver!
Meet
Oliver; he is a six week old grey tiger
kitten who was endured so much in his short
life. He was brought to our shelter on
Monday 4/23/07; he was filthy and his back
leg was wrapped in bloody gauze. The
veterinarian who examined him believes that
his wounds had to have been inflicted by a
human person. It appears as if some one
burned the bottom of Oliver’s foot, and
burned it so badly that the tendon is
clearly visible across the entire bottom of
this foot. By the time he was brought to the
shelter, the wound was several days old and
it was a miracle that it was not severely
infected. Oliver also had some small
scratches on his face and one of his front
paws was also burned. Due to the extent of
the damage of his back foot and the extended
duration of time it took for him to get
help; it is unlikely that his leg will be
salvageable. Oliver will probably have to
have his leg amputated. He is currently on
antibiotics and a decision will be made
tomorrow on the fate of his little limb.
Oliver will be staying in a foster home
until his wounds have healed but will be up
for adoption once he is well. In the mean
time we are in need of funding for Oliver’s
surgery. Oliver needs generous sponsors to
donate funds to help him get the surgery he
needs. So far the world has not been very
kind to Oliver, hopefully from now on life
can be good to him. Please help us save
little Oliver.

One-Eyed Willa
Sponsor Me!
Willa’s
surgery was a success! Thanks to Willa’s
generous sponsor’s we were able to supply
her with the necessary medications and the
surgery that saved her from a terrible
death. During her last vet visit she weighed
6.3 pounds and the vet thinks she won’t grow
much more; maybe another pound or two. Her
tail has gotten really big and fluffy, and
she has grown red highlights in her hair!
Willa is absolutely adored and spoiled by
her forever family. Below is a letter that
Willa wrote to her sponsors (with some
assistance from her foster mom). After the
letter we have posted pictures of Willa
during various stages throughout her life.
Thank you!
9/26/2006
Dear
Sponsor,
Hello! I am writing this letter to thank you
for sponsoring me a few months ago and to
tell you my sad story. I have been through
so much in my short life! I was found by a
very nice lady who was just walking down the
street when she saw several young boys on
bikes riding circles around me, throwing
things at me, and simply terrorizing me. I
was so afraid but I knew she was there to
save me so I let her pick me up. When she
saw that I was missing my right eye, and
that I was all skin and bones, she told me
that she would take me to the Humane Society
so I could get better and find a home. That
sounded alright to me!
Shortly after arriving at the Humane Society
the nice people there took me to a
veterinarian to have my eye looked at. She
said that I would need surgery but it would
have to wait until I was bigger and until
then I had to take this yucky stuff called
Clavomax twice a day! It didn’t taste very
good but I never gave anyone any problems
about taking it because I knew it would keep
me healthy. So I had to wait three whole
months for my surgery. Well, that nice cat
technician at the Humane Society decided to
take me home and foster me so I could take
my medication at the proper times and make
sure I stayed clean and healthy. I overheard
them saying that because my eye socket was
just hanging open, bacteria could easily
infect the area and even spread throughout
my sinuses and into by brain! This was
really scary for me so I was really glad
that my foster mom decided to keep me safe,
clean, and healthy in her home. I don’t know
if I would have survived if she hadn’t.
I
loved my foster home! My foster mom
socialized me with all kinds of people and
animals so I would grow up and not be afraid
of anything. My favorite thing to do was
pounce! If it was at my level; I pounced it!
I loved to pounce toes, and toys, and
sometimes I would pounce things that weren’t
even there! It always made my foster parents
laugh. They were the first people to ever
love me; and oh how they loved me! I loved
to cuddle in bed with them at night, and I
had my own spot on the back of the couch
where I liked to watch T.V.
One
day I was home napping while mom was at work
and some nice lady called the Humane Society
and talked to my foster mom. She said that
she saw me on the internet and that she
wanted to meet me, maybe even adopt me. When
my foster mom told me this I wasn’t sure
what to think at first; I was kind of
nervous about meeting her. My foster mom
took me to work with her the next day and I
met that nice lady and her husband. They
fell in love with me right away and I really
liked them too. When the day came for my new
mom to take me home there were lots of
tears. My foster mom and my new mom were
crying and hugging. I knew that something
big was about to change and when my foster
mom kissed me and said goodbye I knew that I
would miss her terribly.
Then
I finally arrived home and boy did I win the
“forever home lottery”! There were so many
toys, a nice friend for me to play with, a
room with windows for walls so I could watch
the birds and squirrels outside, and of
course I had all the love I could ask for
from my new parents. My new dad makes
playhouses for me out of a cardboard box and
I like to take my mice in there and play!
Now that I am getting bigger my mom thinks I
am a Maine Coon or at least a Maine Coon
mix. I make chirping noises when I play and
I have a lot of the physical characteristics
and mannerisms of a Maine Coon. Not long ago
the vet said I was finally big enough for my
eye surgery and that it was time for my
scary operation. I was really nervous but I
am okay. The best part is I don’t have to
take that yucky Clavomax anymore! My eye is
all closed up now, no open socket, and life
is great! I am so thankful that after all
the bad people I met in the very beginning
of my life that I have met so many GREAT
ones since then. People like you. Without
your donation the Humane Society would not
have had the money for my medications not to
mention my surgery. Thank you so much for
helping to save my life and for believing
that my life was worth saving. I hope after
reading this letter you will be glad that
you did.
Thank
You
Willa
PS
I’m sending little kitten kisses your way!

Mama's Sad Story
Sponsor Me!
Hello! I am the proud “Mama” of eight
adorable puppies! If it were not for the
Humane Society neither me nor my puppies
would probably be alive today. Someone
dumped me in the country to fend for myself
when I became pregnant. When I arrived at
the Humane Society I had been starved for so
long that you could see every single bone in
my body through my coat. Within days I gave
birth. It is a miracle that my puppies
survived despite my nightmarish condition.
The staff has given me vitamins and good
food to get me back to health so I can
continue to care for my puppies.
Unfortunately veterinary care for all of us
if not going to be cheap. Basic veterinary
care for me and my pups will be around
$1,085.00 assuming none of us get sick in
the meantime. This does not even include the
cost of letting us stay here, food,
vitamins, toys, blankets, etc. The Humane
Society has been so generous to us already.
Won’t you please help us and sponsor me and
my puppies so that we can have our shots and
be fixed?
